Why Costco recalls matter for older adults and families

Costco is known for offering a wide variety of products under one roof—from food and cleaning supplies to pools and personal care items.

But with that variety comes an increased chance of safety issues.

According to the FDA and Consumer Product Safety Commission, product recalls remain a key part of protecting consumers from accidental harm, especially those who are more vulnerable, like older adults and people with medical conditions.

The good news is that companies often offer quick solutions—but it’s up to consumers to take action.

This latest round of recalls involves everything from mislabeled crackers to pool components that could pose drowning risks.

Pura 4™ diffusers: Magnet hazard for children and pets

Issue:

Certain models of Pura 4™ home fragrance diffusers have been recalled due to small internal magnets in the front cover that may detach over time.

If swallowed, these magnets could cause serious internal injuries, particularly for young children or pets.

Bestway and Intex aboveground pools: Drowning risk from external straps

Issue:

Certain aboveground pool models from Bestway and Intex—especially those 48 inches or taller—have external compression straps that may act like makeshift ladders.

This design flaw makes it easier for unsupervised children to climb into the pool, increasing the risk of accidental drowning.

Bestway Pools:

  • Affected lines include Power Steel, Steel Pro, and Coleman Power Steel, sold from 2008 to 2024.
  • Look for item numbers like 1099149, 1179351, and 1274360.
  • Visit bestwayusa.com/recall-and-safety or call 844-593-4003 for a free repair kit.

  • Visit intexcorp.com/recall or call 1-800-549-8829 for more details and a free repair kit.
  • Until repaired, restrict access to the pool or drain it completely.

RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches: Allergen warning for mislabeled packs

Issue:

Mondelēz Global has recalled specific 40-count cartons of RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches sold at select Costco locations between June 2 and July 9, 2025.

The outer box is labeled correctly, but some individual snack packs inside are mislabeled as cheese-flavored, even though they contain peanut butter.

Why this matters:

This error poses a serious health risk for people with peanut allergies, especially if they rely on package labeling to avoid allergens.
