Need a ride? Here’s a simpler solution for seniors

Getting from point A to point B shouldn’t feel like running a marathon—especially as you get older.

Whether you’re a seasoned road warrior who’s ready to hang up the car keys, or you simply want a break from the stress of traffic and parking, there’s a new way to keep your independence and stay connected to the world around you.

And it’s easier than ever, thanks to a fresh approach to ride-hailing designed specifically with older adults in mind.

Why Mobility Matters More Than Ever
Let’s face it: the world isn’t slowing down, and neither are you. By 2030, nearly one in six people worldwide will be over 60.

That’s a big number of people who want to keep living life on their own terms—visiting friends, making doctor’s appointments, or just heading out for a well-deserved treat.

But as driving becomes less appealing (or less safe), the question becomes: how do you keep moving without losing our freedom?

Enter the new wave of senior-friendly transportation options, with Uber’s “senior accounts” and “Simple mode” leading the charge. These features are more than just a tweak to an app—they’re a thoughtful reimagining of how older adults can stay mobile, independent, and connected.

A Ride-Hailing Revolution: What’s New for Older Adults?
Uber’s senior accounts are designed to take the stress and confusion out of booking a ride. Here’s what makes them a game-changer:
  • Larger Text & Streamlined Screens: No more squinting at tiny fonts or hunting for the right button. The interface is clean, clear, and easy to navigate.
  • Saved Places: Quickly access your favorite destinations—like home, your doctor’s office, or your grandchild’s school—without retyping addresses every time.
  • Flexible Payment Options: Use your own card, a family member’s card, or even a Medicare Flex card for eligible medical rides. No more fumbling for cash or worrying about who’s paying.
  • Real-Time Trip Updates: Family members can follow your ride in real time and get alerts if there’s a delay, so everyone has peace of mind.
  • Support When You Need It: Loved ones can help book rides, contact drivers, or step in if you need a hand—without taking away your independence.

Simple Mode: For Those Who Like to Go It Alone
Not everyone wants (or needs) a family member involved in their travel plans. That’s where Simple mode comes in.

With just a tap in the Account section of the app, you can activate a simplified interface—bigger text, fewer distractions, and all the control in your hands. It’s perfect for anyone who wants a no-fuss, easy-to-use experience.

How to Get Started—No Tech Degree Required
Worried about complicated setups? Don’t be. Here’s how it works:

1. Family Profile: A loved one invites you to join their Family profile in the Uber app.
2. Easy Onboarding: You’ll get a text with a link to download the app and set up your account (if you don’t have it already).
3. Ready to Ride: Request rides on your own, or get help from family when you want it. You’re always in the driver’s seat (figuratively, of course).

Prefer to fly solo? Just turn on Simple mode in your app settings—no family profile required.

Designed With You in Mind
These features weren’t dreamed up in a boardroom. Uber worked with aging advocates, accessibility experts, and—most importantly—older adults themselves to make sure the experience truly fits your needs.

As Silvia Candamil Neira, Vice President of the Global Initiative on Ageing and Longevity, puts it: “Transportation is one of the biggest barriers to independence as people age. Solutions like Uber’s senior accounts help break down that barrier by offering a simple and flexible way for older adults to get where they need to go—without always having to rely on others. It’s about dignity, freedom, and staying connected to the people and places that matter most.”

Available Now—Across the US and Beyond
No need to wait—these features are already available nationwide in the US. And if you’re a globetrotter or have family abroad, you’ll be glad to know they’re rolling out in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Portugal, France, South Africa, and India (Simple mode only).
