1874: Arthur Meighen was born
Arthur Meighen, who would later serve twice as Canada’s Conservative prime minister (1920–21 and 1926), was born.

1903: Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company
Henry Ford and a group of 11 partners officially launched the Ford Motor Company, setting the stage for automotive history.

1911: IBM was incorporated
The tech giant IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) was formally incorporated, beginning its journey as a pioneering force in computing.

1917: Katharine Graham was born
Katharine Graham, the future groundbreaking publisher of The Washington Post and Newsweek, was born in New York City.

1933: Two major milestones
The FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) was established to protect bank deposits, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s whirlwind Hundred Days—which saw the passage of most New Deal laws—came to an end.

1960: Psycho opened in NYC
Alfred Hitchcock’s chilling masterpiece, Psycho, premiered in New York, forever changing horror cinema.

1963: First woman in space
Valentina Tereshkova made history as the first woman to venture into space, cementing her place as a Soviet space trailblazer.
