1783: Treaty of Paris Signed

1833: The New York Sun
The first successful daily newspaper in the United States, The New York Sun, began publishing, making news more affordable and accessible to the public.

1894: First Legal Labor Day
Labor Day was celebrated as an official holiday in the United States for the first time, honoring the nation’s workers and their contributions.

1916: Adamson Act Signed
President Woodrow Wilson approved the Adamson Act, guaranteeing an eight-hour workday for interstate railroad workers and averting a massive strike.

1923: Poppy Premiere
Dorothy Donnelly’s musical Poppy opened in New York City, delighting audiences with its humor and introducing themes that would inspire later Broadway productions.

1928: Penicillin Discovered
Sir Alexander Fleming made a revolutionary medical breakthrough when he identified penicillin, the first true antibiotic, which would go on to save millions of lives.

1976: Viking 2 Mars Landing
