Outer Space Treaty
Did you know that no nation can claim ownership of the Moon or any other celestial body? The 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which entered into force on October 10, 1967, ensures that outer space remains free for exploration and use by all countries for peaceful purposes.
The treaty also prohibits the placement of nuclear weapons or any other weapons of mass destruction in space, as well as military activities on celestial bodies. As of June 2024, 115 countries are parties to this treaty, reflecting a global commitment to keeping space a realm of peaceful cooperation.
