Pizza Hut has spent the last several years shifting away from its traditional sit-down restaurants.

Instead of dining rooms filled with families and birthday parties, the updated locations include drive-thru lanes, self-serve ordering kiosks, and heated shelves for easy pickup.

The open-concept kitchen allows customers to see their pizzas being made—an assembly-line style approach that feels more like a fast-casual restaurant than a pizzeria.

Why the redesign?

Pizza Hut executives say the changes reflect a “post-pandemic world that has become much more digital.”

In other words, customers are placing orders through their phones, swinging by in their cars, and expecting their food to be hot and ready without much wait.

To meet those expectations, the company is modernizing its locations with features like contactless pickup, mobile ordering, and sleek, streamlined layouts.

CNN recently toured one of the new locations and reported that the new designs focus heavily on functionality—no more red-checkered tablecloths or classic jukeboxes.

The goal is to serve more people, faster, and with less overhead.

What’s left of the old Pizza Hut?

For those feeling nostalgic, there’s still some good news.

While the vast majority of Pizza Hut locations are being updated or repurposed, a handful of “Pizza Hut Classic” stores remain.

These locations retain many of the features longtime fans remember: the red roof, the cozy booths, and yes, even the jukebox.

Food blogger Beauty and the Beets recently visited one of these and described it as “just like I remember.”
