Popular frozen treat pulled from shelves over hidden health concern

A recent discovery buried in the fine print of a product label has prompted swift action.

What seemed like a simple oversight could have serious consequences for people with certain dietary sensitivities.

Now, a widespread recall has been launched after this everyday item was found in freezers across the country.

A company behind several well-known frozen dessert products has voluntarily recalled a batch of items after discovering they contain milk—without explicitly stating it on the label.

Although the ingredient list includes “cream,” the common allergen “milk” is not clearly listed, triggering immediate concern from health authorities.

The announcement was published over the weekend through the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where the company, based in the western US, acknowledged the issue and listed specific items impacted.

The recall spans a variety of single-flavor and multi-pack frozen desserts, including options like coconut, mango, cookies and cream, and strawberry.

Best-by dates on the affected products range widely, covering items scheduled to remain on store shelves through July 2027.

According to the official notice, the issue was uncovered during a label audit—prompting the recall to ensure the safety of consumers who have a milk allergy or sensitivity.

While “cream” was listed as an ingredient, the absence of the word “milk” could mislead or confuse those dependent on accurate labeling for their health.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the FDA stated in the release.

The recalled items were sold nationwide, including in a wide variety of formats—ranging from individual bars to 6-pack, 12-pack, and even 16-pack assortments.

Photos of the recalled packages can be viewed directly on the FDA’s website. The company emphasized that the recall is strictly precautionary, intended to protect public health.

Milk is one of the eight major food allergens regulated under federal labeling requirements.

Federal law mandates that major allergens be clearly and prominently declared using the common name—such as “milk”—on all packaged foods. This helps protect those who are most at risk from accidental exposure.

According to Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE), “When a person with a milk allergy is exposed to milk, proteins in the milk bind to specific antibodies made by the person's immune system. This triggers the person's immune defenses, leading to reaction symptoms that can be mild or very severe.”

While most people can safely enjoy dairy products, even trace amounts can cause major problems for individuals with milk allergies.

This is why accurate and transparent labeling is not just a legal requirement—but a health safeguard.

Anyone with questions about the recall may contact the company by phone at 909‑563‑3090, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific Time.

In the meantime, the FDA will continue to monitor for additional reports or updates.
