Quote Of The Day 08.29.2025
“A rolling stone gathers no moss.”
– Ancient Proverb
– Ancient Proverb
This saying goes all the way back to the 1st century BC, when the Roman writer Publilius Syrus first used a version of it. Centuries later, John Heywood included it in his 1546 collection of English proverbs. Some take it to mean that staying on the move keeps you from settling down, while others see it as encouragement to keep life fresh and active.
Personally, I’ve always seen it as a push to keep moving forward—to work hard toward my goals, to keep “rolling” as I learn, grow, and strive to be a better version of myself. But that pace can be exhausting, so I’ve been trying to find a balance: moving forward with more grace, while slowing down enough to savor the little things instead of rushing past them.
How do you see it? Do you like staying on the move, or do you believe some “moss” can be a good thing? Share your thoughts in the comments!
