A shocking new report has rocked the literary world, threatening to tarnish the reputation of famed author Neil Gaiman. The celebrated writer behind Coraline and American Gods is now facing serious allegations.

Could this be the scandal that changes everything for his career?

According to a detailed account published by Vulture, Gaiman has been accused of sexual assault by his son's nanny, Scarlett Pavlovich, who was employed at his New Zealand residence.

The report alleges a disturbing incident that took place in an outdoor bathtub on February 4, 2022, where Pavlovich claims Gaiman raped her after coercing her to take a bath following dinner.

Pavlovich's harrowing description of the event includes Gaiman joining her in the bathtub without her consent, ignoring her protests, and sexually assaulting her.

The report goes on to detail further alleged instances of abuse, including one where Gaiman is said to have assaulted Pavlovich in the kitchen of a home on Waiheke Island, using butter as lubrication to forcibly penetrate her.

These allegations are part of a broader narrative of abuse that Pavlovich claims blurred together over time, with some instances purportedly occurring while Gaiman's young son was present.

The gravity of these accusations is compounded by claims from other women who have come forward with their own stories of alleged abuse at the hands of Gaiman.

Kendra Stout, another woman mentioned in the report, alleges that Gaiman forced her to engage in rough sex despite her having a urinary tract infection and explicitly asking him not to penetrate her.

The Tortoise podcast, hosted by journalist Rachel Johnson, initially broke the news of the allegations, which include claims from two women of “rough and degrading sex” that was not always consensual.

The report also includes allegations from writer Julia Hobsbawm, who claims Gaiman made an aggressive, unwanted pass at her in 1986, and Caroline Wallner, a mother-of-three who alleges that Gaiman pressured her into a sexual relationship in exchange for housing.

A fifth woman has accused Gaiman of kissing and groping her during a book tour in the US in July 2013.

Gaiman has vehemently denied all allegations, with his representatives labeling the claims as “false, not to mention, deplorable.”

The author's response to the allegations has been to assert that any sexual encounters were consensual and to refute the specific claims made by the women.

The unfolding story raises critical questions about power dynamics, consent, and accountability, particularly in the context of the #MeToo movement, which has brought to light numerous instances of sexual misconduct across various industries.

The allegations against Gaiman have drawn attention due to his significant role in the literary community and the trust placed in him by readers and fans worldwide.

As members of The GrayVine community, it is important to approach sensitive topics thoughtfully and to listen to those who choose to share their experiences.
