Something new is coming to your weekend warehouse routine, and it could make those busy Sundays a lot smoother. After hearing from shoppers nationwide, Sam’s Club is rolling out a change designed to give members more time, flexibility, and convenience when it matters most.

For many Americans over 60, Sunday morning has become prime shopping time.

Stores are quieter, browsing is unhurried, and it is easier to compare prices without weekday crowds.

Now Sam's Club is acknowledging what savvy seniors have known all along, Sunday deserves better hours.

"Due to overwhelming feedback from its members"

Steven Zapata, Director of Corporate Communications at Sam's Club

What this means for your Sunday routine

The new schedule transforms Sam's Club into a true all-day Sunday destination.

Most locations will now operate 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, creating a simplified schedule that is easier to remember than the old patchwork of different daily hours.

Plus members continue to enjoy early shopping access from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. daily, which means you can beat the crowds before the store officially opens to Club members at 9 a.m.

For those who appreciate a calm shopping experience, this early bird window is particularly valuable.

The timing could not be better for the holiday season ahead.

Sam's Club has already extended its hours on major holidays earlier this year, including Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, shifting from the previous 6 p.m. closing to 8 p.m. to give members more flexibility during busy weekends.

Looking ahead, clubs will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will remain closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

A membership designed with seniors in mind

While warehouse clubs might seem geared toward young families buying in bulk, Sam's Club has quietly become a senior-friendly destination.

Adults 50 and older can get 60 percent off a Club membership, bringing it down to $20, or $50 off a Plus membership, reducing it to $60, as new members.

The demographics tell the story. More than half of Sam's Club consumers have household incomes under $50,000, making it an accessible option for those on fixed incomes.

Club vs Plus membership benefits for seniors

Club Membership ($50, or $20 for new members 50+):

• Access to member prices and bulk savings

• Free curbside pickup with no minimum

• Scan & Go mobile shopping

• Member-only fuel discounts

Plus Membership ($110, or $60 for new members 50+):

• Everything in Club, plus:

• Early shopping hours (8–9 a.m. daily)

• Free shipping on orders over $50

• 2 percent cash back on purchases (up to $500 annually)

• Enhanced prescription savings

The health and convenience factor

Beyond bulk groceries, Sam's Club offers services that become increasingly valuable with age.

Plus members can get select medications for as low as $0 and save up to 30 percent on generics.

The optical center provides discounted eye exams and glasses.

Sam's Club employees will load pickup items into your car, a helpful perk for older adults with mobility issues.

The extended Sunday hours make these services more accessible.

Need to pick up prescriptions or grab groceries without the Saturday crowd? Sunday's longer window gives you flexibility to shop when it works best for your schedule.

Your new Sunday schedule breakdown

Here is exactly what the new Sunday hours look like at most Sam's Club locations.

  • Curbside pickup, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Plus member shopping, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Club shopping, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Cafe, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Fuel, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

That early curbside pickup window is particularly convenient. You can place your order online Saturday night and pick it up Sunday morning without even getting out of your car.

Making your membership work harder

With Club membership at $50 annually and Plus at $110, the question becomes whether the upgraded benefits justify the extra cost.

For many seniors, the math works out favorably.

If you fill prescriptions regularly, the medication savings alone can offset the membership fee.

Add in the fuel discounts, which average 10 cents per gallon, plus the convenience of curbside pickup and early shopping hours, and the Plus membership often pays for itself.

The key is knowing how to maximize these benefits.

If you have not been a member for at least six months, you can still qualify for the senior discount, making it an excellent time to rejoin if you have taken a break.

Sunday shopping tips for Sam's Club members

  • Plus members, shop 8–9 a.m. for the quietest experience.

  • Use curbside pickup starting at 7 a.m. to avoid crowds entirely.

  • Combine grocery and prescription runs for maximum efficiency.

  • Take advantage of the extended 8 p.m. closing for unhurried evening shopping.

  • New members 50+, claim your membership discount before signing up.

The bigger picture for warehouse shopping

This schedule change reflects a broader shift in retail recognition that seniors represent a powerful and growing market segment.

Sam's Club joins other major retailers in extending hours and services to accommodate older shoppers who prefer off-peak times and value convenience over speed.

The move also signals increased competition in the warehouse club space, where every hour of operation represents potential revenue and member satisfaction.

While specific comparisons to competitors' Sunday hours were not detailed in the announcement, the unified daily schedule certainly simplifies the shopping decision.

For Sam's Club, the change appears to be driven by genuine member feedback, a good sign that the retailer is listening to its customers rather than making changes based solely on operations.

Sam's Club has seen its highest membership growth among younger demographics, with Gen Z membership up 63 percent over two years. Seniors remain a crucial customer base, especially for services such as prescriptions, optical care, and curbside pickup that become more valuable with age.

The extended hours take effect October 12, just as the holiday shopping season begins to ramp up.

Whether you are stocking up for family gatherings or simply prefer Sunday’s more relaxed pace, those extra four hours of access could make your warehouse experience significantly more convenient.
