Stop using this product immediately! L'Oréal recalls popular product linked to cancer

Many people trust their products to deliver safe and effective results.

But a major recall is raising concerns about a hidden danger in a widely used skincare.

If you have this product at home, you may want to think twice before using it.

L'Oréal has voluntarily recalled all remaining units of its Effaclar Duo acne treatment in the United States.

The recall was issued after concerns arose that the product may be contaminated with benzene—a known carcinogen.

Benzene exposure has been linked to leukemia and other blood disorders, according to the American Cancer Society.

Benzene is a common chemical found in crude oil, gasoline, and tobacco smoke.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that benzene exposure can occur through inhalation, ingestion, or skin absorption.

Long-term exposure can damage bone marrow, leading to anemia and an increased risk of acute myeloid leukemia.

Effaclar Duo contains 5.5% micronized benzoyl peroxide, a common acne-fighting ingredient.

Over time, benzoyl peroxide can degrade—especially when exposed to heat or improper storage conditions.

This process can lead to benzene formation, which is what prompted L'Oréal’s recall.

L'Oréal has confirmed that the recall was conducted in coordination with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

However, the FDA has not issued an official statement on the recall or advised consumers to stop using the product.

L'Oréal has also not disclosed whether it plans to reformulate Effaclar Duo or when it might return to store shelves.
