Sunday Classics 09.28.2025
Hey GrayViners!
What a great batch of song suggestions you all shared last week! From timeless crooners to toe-tapping dance hits, our GrayViners sure know how to pick a tune that never goes out of style. After a week of smiles, memories, and plenty of humming along, it’s time to crown this round’s Sunday Classic.
This week’s winning song—suggested by our very own GrayViner @Gayle B. —is none other than “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by the beloved John Denver!

Now here’s a little something you might not know about this classic: John Denver actually wrote the song in 1966 while waiting for a plane at an airport in Washington, D.C.
Though Denver penned it, it first became a big hit when Peter, Paul and Mary recorded their version in 1969, soaring all the way to the top of the Billboard charts.
The heartfelt lyrics about love and goodbyes have kept it a favorite for decades—and it’s still one of those tunes that can tug at the heartstrings with just the first few notes.
Got a Sunday Classic you think deserves the spotlight next? Drop your pick in the comments below! The song that gathers the most reactions will be crowned next week’s winner and featured in our next newsletter.
Let’s keep the music memories rolling—what tune will take us down memory lane next Sunday?
Cheers!
