Surprise allergen triggers recall in 11 states—could it be in your pantry?

If you’re a fan of crunchy snacks with your afternoon tea or a little something to nibble on while watching your favorite show, it’s time to take a closer look at your pantry.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just issued a recall that could affect your snack stash—and for some, it’s a matter of serious health.

A new recall has been issued for a batch of crackers with an undeclared ingredient.

The US FDA says this poses a serious risk for anyone with food allergies.

On June 5, the FDA confirmed that Firehook of Virginia is recalling many of its Classic Sea Salt Organic Crackers.

The reason: undeclared sesame—a major allergen that could trigger life-threatening reactions.

According to the company, a temporary breakdown in the packaging process caused the error.

Incorrect labels were applied to crackers that did contain sesame, but the labels failed to mention it.

The problem was discovered on May 30. By then, the mislabeled products had already shipped to retailers.

This recall only affects a single lot. Here’s how to check your box:

The crackers were sold in 8-ounce clear plastic packages. They have a “Best By” date of Sept. 29, 2025. The UPC code on the package is 8 99055 00063 5.

You can see a photo of the affected packaging on the FDA’s website.

The crackers were distributed to stores in the following 11 states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia.

At this time, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the crackers.

But if you have this specific product at home, the advice is clear: don’t eat it.

Return it to the original store where it was purchased for a full refund.

If you have questions, you can contact Firehook of Virginia directly at 1-888-580-0745, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST.

This recall shows how small labeling mistakes can have big consequences. Especially for people who rely on those labels to stay safe.

As allergy awareness grows, more shoppers are paying attention to ingredient lists. And even familiar products deserve a second glance.

Food safety starts with accurate packaging. And when that breaks down, even a cracker can become a threat.
