Behind closed doors in the store’s private viewing room, Gilder was presented with two pairs of diamond earrings and a diamond ring—together worth over $1 million.
But instead of closing a deal, he allegedly grabbed the jewelry and made a run for it.
In the scuffle, the ring was dropped, but the earrings—valued at more than $760,000—vanished along with him.
Surveillance footage captured Gilder fleeing the scene and hopping into a getaway car.
Thanks to toll records and public safety cameras, law enforcement swiftly tracked the vehicle.
When the Florida Highway Patrol pulled him over, they found earring cases and price tags scattered inside the car.
However, the most shocking discovery came later—Gilder had allegedly swallowed the stolen earrings in a desperate attempt to conceal them.
A scan at the Washington County Jail confirmed the presence of "several foreign objects" in his stomach.
