Did you know the chemical symbol for lead (Pb) comes from the Latin word plumbum, meaning “lead”?
Back in ancient Rome, pipes were made from lead because it was soft, malleable, and easy to shape. Workers who specialized in installing and repairing these pipes were called plumbarius, or workers of lead. Over time, the word evolved into plumber—the name we still use today!
