The Rookie Detectives
A policeman was training three rookie detectives. To test their observation skills, he showed the first recruit a photo for five seconds and then hid it. “This is your suspect. How would you recognize him?”
The first recruit thought for a second and said, “That’s easy—we’ll catch him right away because he only has one eye!”
The officer sighed. “That’s because the photo is of his profile—you can only see one side of his face!”
Trying again, he showed the same picture to the second recruit. “How would you recognize this suspect?”
The second recruit grinned and said, “Simple—he only has one ear!”
The officer slapped his forehead. “Of course, you only see one ear—it’s a profile shot!”
Now more than a little frustrated, he turned to the third recruit. “This is your suspect. Think carefully before you answer—how would you recognize him?”
The third recruit studied the photo, then said, “He wears contact lenses.”
The officer was caught off guard. “Huh… I don’t actually know if that’s true. Wait here.” He checked the suspect’s file and came back amazed. “You’re right—he does wear contact lenses! How on earth did you figure that out?”
The recruit smiled. “That’s easy—he can’t wear glasses with only one eye and one ear!”
