This sneaky trick got a Walmart shopper arrested–Discover how she did it 20 times.

In the bustling aisles of Walmart, where families fill their carts and seniors seek bargains, a cunning thief turned shopping trips into a lucrative con.

A Jacksonville woman, blending into the crowd, perfected a “sick trick” that netted her over $10,000.

But like all tales of deception, this one came to an abrupt end. What did she do?

Between May 2022 and March 2023, the Jacksonville woman named Kabreshia Caldwell, 47 years old, preyed on shoppers aged 61 to 94.

Surveillance footage revealed her method. She would stealthily snatch wallets in Walmart and Publix stores across Northeast Florida from over 20 victims and then use their identification to make unauthorized ATM withdrawals.

The community, upon learning of the thefts, was left reeling. Darlene Yauger, a local resident, expressed her dismay to CBS affiliate WJAX, “It doesn’t make me happy at all.”

The concern was palpable, especially for those with elderly relatives who, like Yauger's 90-year-old mother, may feel capable but are vulnerable to such deceit.

The thefts struck a chord with the community, highlighting the vulnerability of the elderly who, unlike their younger counterparts, cannot simply “go back to work” to recoup their losses.

“It’s sad to see that happen especially to someone that can’t get up and go back to work tomorrow to make that money back up again,” the anonymous resident said.

“As a person that works hard, and earned money all their life, they should not have anything stolen from them.”

The perpetrator, now identified as Caldwell, is behind bars, facing 30 charges including petit theft, fraud, and grand theft across multiple agencies.

Already serving time for unrelated charges, Caldwell has been transferred to Clay County Jail, with a bond set at $155,000 and a court appearance scheduled for March 11.

This incident at Walmart is not an isolated case. Retail theft has become rampant, with another Walmart employee, Jeremiah Boyer, arrested for allegedly embezzling over $52,000 through fraudulent heavy item fees on the Spark online delivery service.

Even if the order is not fulfilled, the workers still receive the heavy item fee. The suspect allegedly used fake names and accounts to create orders for heavy items then tagged them as “not found.”

This allowed him to keep the heavy item fee even though he didn’t actually deliver an order. Boyer was said to have been doing this since April 4, 2024.

The Walmart employee told investigators that “he did not feel he committed a crime.”

Retailers, including Walmart, are fighting back with anti-theft measures such as locking cabinets, security pegs, cameras, receipt scanners, and carts with locking technology.

These strategies aim to protect both the stores and their customers from the financial and emotional toll of theft.
