Unexpected hazard found in popular yogurt—recall issued over plastic contamination

It’s one of those grab-and-go items that many enjoy, whether as a breakfast staple, lunchbox treat, or after-dinner indulgence.

But now, a trusted product has suddenly disappeared from store shelves across the country.

A recent announcement from a household name is raising eyebrows and triggering swift action from retailers.

And the reason why may have you checking your fridge immediately.

A widespread recall has been issued for all YoCrunch yogurt products after sharp plastic fragments were discovered in the mix-in toppers.

Danone US, one of the largest yogurt manufacturers in the country, announced the recall on July 11, 2025.

The company acted after consumers reported finding plastic pieces up to one inch in size, some with sharp edges, in the yogurt topping compartments.

These clear plastic fragments were found in mix-ins such as Oreo pieces, M&M’s, granola, Twix, Snickers, and cookie dough.

YoCrunch’s signature appeal has always been its “crunchy” toppings—but this isn’t the kind of crunch anyone wants.

The fragments pose a choking hazard, especially for children and older adults, and may cause internal injuries if swallowed.

Until further notice, no YoCrunch products are considered safe to consume, regardless of flavor or size.

Every YoCrunch product is included in the recall

Danone confirmed that every flavor and size of YoCrunch yogurt is part of the recall. Whether you purchased an individual cup or a multi-pack, it’s affected if the product is labeled “YoCrunch.”

Flavors under recall include:
  • YoCrunch Vanilla Yogurt with M&M’s
  • YoCrunch Strawberry Yogurt with Granola
  • YoCrunch Vanilla Yogurt with Oreo Pieces
  • YoCrunch Vanilla Yogurt with Snickers Pieces
  • YoCrunch Vanilla Yogurt with Twix Pieces
  • YoCrunch Vanilla Yogurt with Cookie Dough
All packaging sizes are affected, including:
  • 6-ounce individual cups
  • 4-ounce four-packs
  • 6-ounce eight-packs
  • 6-ounce 18-packs
If you find any YoCrunch yogurt in your refrigerator with expiration dates from July through September 2025, it is part of the recall.

Danone has not revealed when the contamination began, so the safest move is to assume all current YoCrunch products are unsafe.

What should you do if you bought YoCrunch?

Danone is urging all customers to stop eating YoCrunch immediately—even if the yogurt appears normal. Plastic fragments may be hidden inside the toppings and are not always visible. Here’s how to respond:
  • Return it to your local grocery store for a full refund. Many retailers like Wegmans have already issued notices and are refunding without hassle.
  • Dispose of it safely if returning isn’t an option—especially in homes with pets or young children.
  • Contact Danone directly by calling the YoCrunch Consumer Care Line at 1-877-344-4886 (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–6 PM ET).
A complete list of affected products, including expiration dates and UPC codes, is available in Danone’s official press release and on most retailer recall notices.

What caused the contamination?

Danone has not shared the exact cause of the contamination. However, recalls like this usually stem from packaging line malfunctions, such as broken equipment or defective containers.

The company is currently working with retailers to remove affected inventory from shelves.

Danone has not yet announced when fresh or safe YoCrunch products will return to stores.

This recall only affects YoCrunch. Other Danone-owned brands are not part of the recall.

Still, food safety experts recommend reviewing all yogurt products at home and staying updated on new developments. Even unopened products can be dangerous if part of a contamination incident.
