"Unfriend"
Facebook popularized “unfriend” in the 2000s, but did you know that the term has been around for centuries? It dates back to 1659 (at least the use of it as a verb)! In that year, Thomas Fuller, a Church of England clergyman, wrote in The Appeal of Injured Innocence: “I hope, sir, that we are not mutually un-friended by this difference which hath happened betwixt us.” So, next time you "unfriend" someone, remember you're using a term with a surprisingly long history—long before the rise of social media!
