Urgent Recall: 40,000 Nissans at Risk from Dangerous Camera Flaws—Is Yours Affected?

In a move that underscores the importance of vehicle safety features, Nissan has found itself in the spotlight with a significant recall affecting over 40,000 vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has sounded the alarm over a critical issue that could compromise drivers' ability to see what's behind them when reversing.

The recall involves two separate issues, both linked to software malfunctions that result in the rearview camera's image disappearing when the vehicle is in reverse—a potential hazard that increases the risk of a collision.

The first recall notice impacts 37,236 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti QX80 vehicles. The culprit? A software error that can cause the rearview camera to display a blank screen.

The second notice affects an additional 3,230 Infiniti QX80 vehicles equipped with the Around View Mirror system, which may also experience a frozen or blank screen due to software glitches.

These malfunctions are not just inconveniences; they represent a violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility,” which sets the bar for ensuring drivers have a clear view of the area behind their vehicle to prevent accidents.

Affected Models and Years:
  • 2024-2025 Nissan Rogue
  • 2025 Infinity QX80

Nissan is addressing this issue head-on by rolling out over-the-air software updates starting in late October. For vehicles that aren't equipped with this capability, as well as those with the Around View Mirror system, dealers will perform the software update free of charge.

Vehicle owners can expect to receive recall letters by November 21, with Nissan's recall numbers being R24B3, R24B4, and R24B5.

If you own one of the affected models, it's crucial to take action to ensure your safety and compliance with the recall.

In a previous story, Jeep owners are asked to take precautions due to a recall involving a potential fire hazard in their vehicles.

As we navigate the roads, safety features like rearview cameras have become more than just conveniences—they're essential tools that help prevent accidents.

Remember, staying up-to-date on recalls is a key part of responsible vehicle ownership. Let's use this moment to check in on our cars and ensure they're as safe as possible—for ourselves and for everyone we share the road with.
