A recently issued recall by the US Department of Agriculture has prompted concern among shoppers nationwide, with many now questioning the safety of a staple they once trusted.

The recall affects over 24,000 pounds of this well-known product, and what was allegedly discovered inside is not something anyone would expect—or want—to find in their food.

On July 17, 2025, Kayem Foods Inc. issued a recall of their Al Fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage after three separate consumers found white plastic pieces embedded in the product.

The sausage, which is fully cooked and ready to eat, was produced on June 28 and shipped to retailers nationwide.

While no injuries have been reported yet, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is urging immediate action.

Contamination with foreign materials, especially plastic, presents a potential choking hazard or risk of internal injury.


If you think you might have this product at home, there are specific identifying details you need to look for.

The recall applies to 11-ounce vacuum-packed packages labeled as All Natural Al Fresco Chicken Sausage Sweet Apple with Vermont Made Syrup.

Affected packages display lot code 179, with a Use/Freeze By date of OCT 01 2025. Check the USDA mark on the front of the package—if it shows establishment number P-7839, you’re holding a recalled item. Images of the labels are available on the FSIS website for easy comparison.

So what should you do if you find the recalled sausage in your fridge or freezer? First and foremost, do not eat it—even if it smells and looks fine, it could still pose a risk.



You can either throw it away in a secure manner or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
