As technology transforms almost every corner of modern life, the question of what the future might look like has never felt more pressing. From artificial intelligence to space exploration, innovation is moving faster than most can imagine—and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has now shared a bold vision that could reshape how we think about the decades ahead.

While many recognize the benefits of AI, excitement about its possibilities often comes with unease about its risks. The company behind ChatGPT—OpenAI—has been working on a study to determine which jobs are most likely to disappear as artificial intelligence becomes more advanced.

Using a test known as GDPval, the team examined how technology performs against human workers in nine job sectors across the United States. The results identified 44 types of jobs that could be at risk as AI becomes more widespread.

Bezos sees opportunity, not doom

Despite growing fears about automation and its effect on employment, Bezos remains optimistic. “I don’t see how anybody can be discouraged who is alive right now,” he told an audience at Italian Tech Week.

“Civilizational abundance comes from our inventions,” he added. “So 10,000 years ago, or whenever it was, somebody invented the plough, and we all got richer… these tools increase our abundance, and that pattern will continue.”

Bezos believes AI will improve life rather than diminish it, arguing that technology’s role is to enhance humanity’s capabilities.

He predicts that the tools we build today will make future generations healthier, wealthier, and better connected than ever before.

A future among the stars

In addition to his AI outlook, Bezos envisions humanity expanding beyond Earth. “In the next kind of couple of decades, I believe there will be millions of people living in space,” he said. “That’s how fast this is going to accelerate.”

He added that these future space dwellers will mostly live there by choice. “We don’t need people to live in space,” he explained.

“If you need to do some work on the surface of the Moon or anywhere else, we will be able to send robots to do that work, and that will be much more cost-effective than sending humans.”

NASA’s glass-dome vision for lunar living

Bezos’ predictions come as NASA outlines its own ambitious plans for long-term living on the Moon.

The agency is studying how lunar regolith—the rocky material on the Moon’s surface—could be used to build massive “lunar glass” domes for astronauts to live and work in.

The project is led by the California-based company Skyeports, whose CEO Dr. Martin Bermudez believes such structures could one day expand into lunar cities. “You will never replicate Earth, but this is something that gets pretty close, and we could even put them into orbit one day,” he said.

“Space has always been kind of fascinating for me,” Dr. Bermudez added. “My background was as an architect, so I had the chance to start exploring how we can build structures on the Moon or Mars.”

Balancing optimism with reality

Bezos’ remarks offer a hopeful perspective amid widespread concern over AI’s impact on work and society.

While many tech leaders warn of automation’s risks, Bezos’ vision centers on innovation, abundance, and expansion—both on Earth and beyond it.

Whether or not his predictions come true within decades, they highlight how rapidly technology is advancing.

The coming years could bring both challenges and opportunities for how humanity adapts to the next phase of technological progress.
