What started as a routine grocery delivery took a shocking turn—this will restore your faith in humanity!

Sometimes, everyday routines take an unexpected turn.

For one shopper, what should have been a routine delivery became something far more urgent.

A split-second decision and a strong gut feeling led to an outcome no one could have predicted.

In 2022, Jessica Higgs, an Instacart shopper in Georgia, was fulfilling a grocery order placed by a woman for her elderly father.

At first glance, everything seemed normal. But upon arriving at the man's home, something felt off.

Higgs hesitated at first. Instacart deliveries are supposed to be quick transactions, with minimal interaction.

But she couldn't ignore her gut feeling.

She messaged the man's daughter, explaining her concerns. If she marked the order as complete, she wouldn’t be able to contact her again.

“I went to the lady because I was very concerned for her dad, he looked sick,” she explained while acknowledging that she “didn't know what to do.”

“I said, ‘It's very unprofessional to say something,’ and I wasn't going to—I never talk, I always just put groceries down and leave.”

“This time, for whatever reason, my head was like, ‘You gotta say something,’ so I said, ‘He's not doing good, he's sick,’” she continued.

"There's gotta be a leak," she warned the daughter. "He might not be doing good because of this leak."'

The daughter took her warning seriously. She sent her son to check on the home.

The next day, Higgs received a message that confirmed her worst fears.

There was a propane leak.

Had she not spoken up, the elderly man and his grandson could have been in serious danger.

The daughter wrote in her message, “You definitely saved my dad and my younger son's life!”

Grateful for Higgs’ actions, she increased her tip from $14 to $100—a small token of appreciation for what could never truly be repaid.

Three years later, Higgs continues to share her story every year on January 22, using it as a reminder of an important lesson:

“If you see something, say something.”

“It's not for me. Not for the comments or likes. It's for the message. The message is strong. And a tearjerker. I read every single comment,” she stated.

“Every single message sent. And it still brings tears to my eyes. I still watch it myself,” she continued.

Higgs mentioned that the experience gave her a purpose and a “completely different outlook on life.”

Medline Plus indicates that inhaling or ingesting propane can be detrimental, as propane displaces oxygen in the lungs, rendering respiration challenging or unfeasible.

It is advised to obtain medical assistance promptly if an individual has inhaled the toxin, as well as to relocate them to fresh air without delay.
