Wheel of Fortune fans furious over controversial bonus round answer—who is in the wrong here?

A recent episode of Wheel of Fortune has sparked heated debate among fans, with many questioning whether a bonus round puzzle was truly a "common phrase."

The controversial moment unfolded when contestant Connor Kemmsies, a commercial pilot from Lakeside, California, breezed through the competition—only to be stumped by the final puzzle.

In the bonus round, Connor selected the category "Phrase" and was given the standard letters R, S, T, L, N, and E—which provided little help. He then chose C, M, D, and A, revealing the following puzzle:

"_ D _ D M _ _ _ M E _ _ R _"

Connor confidently solved the first part—"I DID MY"—but couldn’t figure out the last word.

The correct answer? "I DID MY HOMEWORK."

While Connor took the loss in stride, joking, "Aw, dude, I don't do homework anymore," the response from fans was far from lighthearted. Many took to social media to vent their frustration, arguing that the puzzle didn’t fit the category and was unfairly difficult.

Viewers were quick to debate whether "I did my homework" is a recognizable phrase or just a basic sentence.

"That wasn't a phrase. That was just a normal sentence," one viewer commented.

"I couldn’t think of anything but 'dad,' but I think two players is better than one," another admitted.

Others defended the choice, with one fan noting, "It absolutely is a phrase since 'I did my homework' doesn’t literally mean schoolwork—it can also mean being prepared for something."

Despite missing out on the $40,000 bonus prize, Connor still walked away with $19,080 in cash and a six-day whale-watching cruise to Baja, California—not a bad consolation prize!

This isn’t the only recent moment that has left fans frustrated. Just days earlier, the show accidentally spoiled its own winner due to an editing error.

During a segment showcasing a contestant’s vacation prize, the clip prematurely revealed that Nekeia Borders had won—before the game had even finished airing.

Despite these occasional mishaps, Wheel of Fortune remains one of America’s most-watched game shows, averaging 7.99 million viewers in its latest season under host Ryan Seacrest.
