Who—or what—is behind the desk?

He wore a tie, fought crime—and had four paws. This unlikely public servant from the 1970s had a courtroom full of laughs and a very shaggy secret. If you remember a certain lovable pooch who moonlighted as a district attorney (yes, really), you’re not imagining things. Who—or what—is behind that desk?

You got it—that’s The Shaggy D.A., the 1976 Disney film and sequel to The Shaggy Dog. Dean Jones starred as Wilby Daniels, a lawyer who magically transforms into an Old English Sheepdog just as he runs for district attorney. Packed with slapstick humor and classic Disney charm, this one had kids giggling and parents shaking their heads. Do you remember watching it—or seeing the original? If I understand correctly you are asking for what kind of dog used in the film. It’s an old English sheepdog. The real name was ROVER. A VERY SHAGGY DOG. I saw the original movie in 1959 with Fred MacMurray and Tommy Kirk. It was the first movie I saw in a theater! My grandmother took me all by myself leaving my 2 brothers at home! I was 6 years old and felt like I was Queen Kid for a Day! Afterwords she took me to Woolworth’s to have a burger fries and a chocolate shake. I’d seen the counter when I shopped with her a previous visit. I felt so special being with her having my perfect lunch at their counter! It had nothing to do with diapers but I felt like I was a Big Kid
now! Had few memorable days in my childhood but this was a wonderful day! The theater experience has improved but the experience at Woolworth is gone and never forgotten! Same with the drive thru at the A & W restaurants! A great date place during my dating years! Oh yeah…
