Woman confused by mysterious $8 food delivery—doorbell cam captures the twist

If you've ever woken up to a mysterious charge or food delivery confirmation you don’t remember, you're not alone.

Before assuming identity theft or app glitches, take a look at your own habits—especially if you’re a sleepwalker.

That’s exactly what happened to Miranda Knowles of Nanaimo, British Columbia, who woke up to a baffling $8 DoorDash receipt. The only physical trace? A single packet of A&W honey mustard sauce on her doorstep.

Miranda, a lifelong sleepwalker, didn’t remember ordering anything, and there was no food bag to be found.

“I was so confused because I didn't see any bag in the picture so I ran down the stairs and was baffled to see the little sauce,” she told Newsweek.

When she checked her Ring doorbell footage, it showed exactly what had happened—she had, while asleep, ordered just the one sauce packet.

“I thought it was funny so I showed it to my husband and he wasn’t surprised at yet another silly sleepwalking thing I did,” she said.

Miranda’s husband has grown used to her unusual nighttime behavior. “It started as a young child and still happens, up to 10 times a month,” she said, noting she has sleepwalked through cooking, crafting, bathing, and even doing laundry.

Though she’s never caused harm, the outcomes are often bizarre, like the time she emptied an entire fridge in her sleep. “Nothing too crazy but I can get a lot done while asleep,” she added.

Her sleepwalking has taken a modern twist with food delivery apps now in the mix. “Lately I've been Door Dashing random items,” she explained.

That includes onion rings, a single bottle of Coke—despite not drinking it—and now, this infamous $8 packet of honey mustard. “I either see the email notification when I wake up or I go to leave for work and there's a bag of cold food at my door.”

This latest incident wasn’t even the strangest, according to Miranda. “It’s up there, but I’ve also emptied the entire fridge, I’ve had a bath, I’ve wandered outside in the middle of the night,” she said.

Her family’s response is a mix of concern and amusement, but they’ve come to accept it. “I’ve learned to live with it,” she noted.

A 2012 study from the Stanford University School of Medicine estimated that roughly 8.4 million US adults have experienced sleepwalking.

Research also suggests links between sleepwalking and mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. Miranda has noticed her episodes spike when she’s stressed or consumes too much caffeine.

“I find that I sleepwalk more if I have a lot of caffeine in the day or if I'm stressed,” she shared. For Miranda, working as an emergency room nurse meant high stress was constant. “I was always stressed.“

“Recently I changed to another job and it's not as much stress, so less sleepwalking,” she explained. Her reduced episodes reflect what many studies suggest: better rest and lower stress can dramatically cut down on sleepwalking frequency.

Though her nocturnal habits have become a source of family jokes, Miranda remains cautious. Sleepwalking may seem funny, but it can pose real safety risks if not monitored.

That’s why she keeps her home secure and often relies on technology like her doorbell cam to trace what happened. “I do like A&W honey mustard but I’m not sure why I would order it alone!” she said with a laugh.
