You could be owed money from a recent $32 million settlement—see if you qualify

A new consumer settlement has been announced, and if you made a certain type of purchase in the last two decades, you may be eligible for a payout.

The total settlement fund is $32 million, and thousands of Americans could qualify for compensation—if they file a claim before the deadline in May 2025.

The case involves Synta Technology Corporation, a Taiwan-based company behind several well-known brands of telescopes and optical products.

The company was accused of conspiring to fix prices, which may have led consumers to pay more than they should have.

Synta has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to the settlement to resolve the claims.

Who is eligible?

You may qualify for compensation if you purchased a Celestron, Orion, Skywatcher, Zhumell, or Meade telescope between January 1, 2005, and September 6, 2023, while living in one of the qualifying US states.

These include California, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, and many others.

How much could you receive?

Final payout amounts will depend on how many claims are submitted, but the agreement includes a $3,000 service award for each eligible class member.

Even if your individual share is smaller, the value may still be worth your time—especially if you’ve ever owned one of the included products.
