General Discussion Thread 11.01.2024

Hey everyone! đź‘‹

Welcome to today’s General Discussion Thread! This is the perfect spot to share whatever’s on your mind—whether it’s a cool fact you just learned, a funny story, or something that’s been bothering you. We want to hear it all!

For me, I'd like to share that I want to try my hand at scrapbooking. They say it's an easy way to destress after a long day, too! With that said, I'm also curious: Is there anything you'd like to try your hand at this month? Share it with us in the comments! Who knows, you might find a kindred spirit who could help you get started. ;)

So, get comfy, and jump into the conversation!

I've been watching online classes in acrylic and watercolor painting. They've been very enjoyable and educational. I just don't know where to start. Since they are two entirely different methods of painting does anyone have advice on where to begin? Thanks in advance.

Hi, @Catspaw_mary! I've been planning to try acrylic for a while now, so I'm also doing some reasearch. So far, I learned that it's really quick to dry and doesn't give you much time to correct mistakes. I mainly use watercolor and gouache, and I find them more flexible and forgiving. Watercolor is trasparent, while gouache is opaque.

I'm no expert, but here's a few tips I want to share:
1. get watercolor paper (200 gsm and above)
2. go easy on the amount of water you put in your brush, I almost tore the paper when I first tried to paint :D
3. for watercolor - go from light to dark; for gouache, it's easy to layer so you can go from dark to light
4. follow along easy tutorials on youtube!

I hope this helps! Looking forward to seeing your artworks in our Craft Corner! :D
