If you need to update your direct deposit details, you’ll primarily do so through the "My Social Security" online portal.

However, if you cannot verify your identity online, you may need to visit an SSA field office to complete the process in person.

For individuals applying for retirement or auxiliary benefits who cannot verify their identity online, an in-person visit will be required.

To ensure a smooth transition, the SSA has postponed the start date of this requirement to April 14, allowing time for staff training and preparation.

Documents You May Need to Verify Your Identity​

  • US driver’s license
  • State-issued non-driver identification card
  • US passport

Actually since I started getting SS 10 years ago I have only gone to a physical SS office one time and that was to start getting my SS.

So how long have you been getting SS?

How many times did you go to a SS office?

In that same amount of time how many times have you traveled more than 100 miles?

BTW they are closing only the offices rarely used to stop wasting money.

Which would you prefer an office next door and SS running out of money in 10 years or one within 100 miles of you and SS not run out of money in your lifetime or mine?

Common sense will help you far more than an SS office inside every 7-11.
