General Discussion Thread 04.17.2025

Welcome to another glorious Thursday, GrayViners! I (Ally) hope the day brings a smile to your face and a warmth to your heart. Today is going to be a slow day for me, but I’m looking forward to trying out a new dinner recipe tonight! Speaking of food, I’ve been thinking: If you could dine with any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why? Share your thoughts in the comments! For me, I’d love to go grab a bite with Steve Irwin. I love animals, and I’d love to learn more about them from him. 💜

Or, if you have something else you'd like to share—whether it’s a cool fact you just learned, a funny story, or something that’s been bothering you—feel free to comment them down, too! This General Discussion Thread is created just for you, so feel free to engage with your fellow members!

Now, what's on YOUR mind today?

lt would have to be John Wayne. l fell in love with his movies when l was in my teens. He was a great actor and gave a lot of himself to others. Visiting soldiers, helping people out when they needed it and many other things. His legacy lives on through the Lung Cancer research trying to help others who have gotten it

I would love to once again, have the opportunity of dining with Jeff Chandler. Had dinner with him on a train in 1956. His table had the only space for my mom and I and he invited us to sit with him. He was a most gracious host, great conversationalist and as he rose to leave, kissed my hand. I remember telling my mother I would never wash that hand ever again!

It probably sounds cliché but because I would have some specific questions for him and because I am a believer, I would have to go with Jesus Christ.

I would love to have dinner with Morgan Freeman. I find him very fascinating and interesting. He has a very soothing voice and can tell some extremely great stories.

Thomas Jefferson, and Leonardo Da Vinci. They were great thinkers, inventors and creators. It would be wonderful to listen to them discuss ideas and creativity. Ask them to compare their thinking and creative methods and processes.

Abraham Lincoln. I think he must have been an interesting person aside from being a great President and humanitarian.

Easy answer for me. I chose to share a meal with Jesus. I would loved to be with Him and the 12 disciples in the Upper Room

It would be Alexander the Great. His story has always fascinated me .
Thanks so much for sharing @hazelmay ! Alexander the Great is such a bold choice — his life was filled with ambition, strategy, and adventure. What part of his story fascinates you most — his military genius, the way he built his empire, or something else entirely? And if you had the chance to ask him one question over dinner, what do you think it would be?

Thank you so much for sharing @angib55 ! John Wayne is such a powerful choice — he had a commanding presence on screen and a generous spirit off it. It’s especially touching how his legacy continues through lung cancer research; that’s a lasting impact not everyone sees. Do you have a favorite John Wayne film that really stayed with you over the years? And if you had the chance to share a meal with him, what would you most want to talk about — his film career, his philanthropy, or maybe his personal battles?

Thanks so much for sharing @Arkie98 ! Steve McQueen had such a cool, effortless style on screen — and his performances still hold up today. And Katharine Hepburn was truly iconic in her own right! It’s interesting you mentioned The African Queen — that starred Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. If you had a chance to sit down with Steve McQueen, what would you want to ask him — something about his racing, his acting, or maybe his rebellious streak?
