How Do You Celebrate Thanksgiving? ​

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we’d love to hear from you, GrayViners! Do you have traditions that make the holiday extra special? Maybe a favorite dish that has to be on the table or a family game you never miss? Whether you’re hosting a big get-together, keeping it cozy, or trying something new this year, we’d love to know!

We have a silly tradition that started when we were children by our dad. When we were children, it was fun, when we were teenagers is was dumb and now that we are all adults, when we get together, we still do it and I still have my mom's turkey salt/pepper shakers that we use today! They are turkey salt and pepper shakers that only came out for Thanksgiving. You have to be very vigilent when have Thanksgiving dinner at mom's house and the shakers were out. The goal is to NEVER have the backside of the shakers facing you. If you get up from the table for something and turn your back, someone would turn them to face you and everyone at the table waited with anticipation to see how long it would take you to notice. Sounds silly, but it was corny then and still is, but brings back a good memory of how simple life used to be.

I am going to my brother's house in South Bend with my father, who just turned 94 Oct. 9! In can't wait to have the "cranberry sauce shaped like a can", to quote Ernest P. Worrell.

Hey Gary Blake-I saw something on a reel I was watching, and I am going to try it this year. You open the cranberry sauce and put it on a plate, then with an apple corer, go from top to bottom and it takes nice large shapes the shape of celery. It looks so much appealing to eat than can shaped Jello!

We are having Thanksgiving here, 17 family members, and my 12 year old granddaughter and I do all the cooking. We set the dinner room table a little while ago, so that's out of the way....we made eggplant parmesan earlier,n two trays of it....we will be serving antipasto to start with different salamis, pepperoni, cheeses, crostini bread, olives, mushrooms, roasted peppers....next we are making turkey, spiral ham, stuffed artichokes, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, biscuits, cranberry sauce, green beans,stuffed mushrooms and salad....the finale will include homemade pumpkin pie, pecan pie, fruitcake, fruit, chocolate covered strawberries, cookies, brownies, coffee and ice cream, fresh homemade whipped cream.....and I'm totally exhausted....lol but enjoy every minute of it. Wow, Linda, what an incredible feast you and your granddaughter have planned! It sounds absolutely amazing—from the antipasto to the pumpkin pie, every detail is so thoughtful. Hey MB! I was terribly disappointed. The only cranberries offered was in the form of a cranberry/jalapeno/cream cheese spread for crackers!! I am gonna get the REAL cranberries (shaped like a can) when I get my groceries next week. Maybe 2 or 3 cans!!
