A well-loved chain is quietly expanding—see which areas are getting first dibs soon

Something new is coming to town—and shoppers are already getting excited. It’s not often that a store expansion makes this much buzz, but this one’s different.

A popular destination for finding deep discounts on everything from home goods to clothes is opening more doors in just a few weeks. And with job creation and community donations in the mix, there’s even more reason to keep a close eye on this rollout.

While other major retailers are closing locations, this fast-growing chain is opening ten new stores beginning July 19. The company said these locations will include areas in California, Minnesota, Michigan, New Mexico, and Tennessee. Each new store is expected to bring in between 55 and 90 full- or part-time jobs.

Ross Dress for Less CEO Jim Conroy said, “Consumers are looking for value and convenience more than ever, and we're excited to continue to bring those qualities to the community.” The announcement comes as part of Ross’s broader expansion plan that has already added several stores this year. Ross opened 16 new Ross Dress for Less stores and three dd’s DISCOUNTS locations across 14 states in March alone.

Richard Lietz, Executive Vice President of Property Development, said, “We now operate a total of 2,205 Ross Dress for Less and dd’s DISCOUNTS locations across 44 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam.”

He also confirmed the company’s long-term goal: growing Ross to 2,900 locations and dd’s DISCOUNTS to 700 stores.

On July 19, a second Market Street store will open in San Francisco. In line with the opening, Ross will be making a charitable donation to the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco. Another store will open at the Euclid Shopping Center in Anaheim, with 25,000 square feet of retail space.

Two more stores are coming to Minnesota, in Woodbury and Savage. To support those communities, Ross is donating to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Twin Cities and Harriet Bishop Elementary.

In Michigan, two locations are opening in Adrian. Each of those will support the Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee through donations. A 21,000-square-foot store will launch at the North Plains Mall Shopping Center in Clovis, New Mexico.

Tennessee will also see a new store open at the South Plaza Shopping Center in Nashville. That space will cover 22,000 square feet. With each new location, Ross is sticking to a playbook that has long earned praise from its customers.

Fans often describe the experience as a treasure hunt for deals on clothing, shoes, home goods, and more. Many shoppers cite the constantly rotating inventory as a reason to return frequently. One excited shopper wrote online, “Omg I’m so excited I LOVED Ross in Hawaii!!”

"It’s way better than TJ max [sic] or Marshall’s! Yayy!" Another user chimed in, saying they’d be first in line when the doors open.

Each Ross store brings a similar layout and concept. There’s no fancy signage or complicated aisles—just racks, shelves, and bins stocked with discounted brand-name merchandise. New inventory comes in several times a week, so selection changes constantly.

Shoppers often recommend looking through every aisle, as hidden gems can appear anywhere in the store. Ross also encourages customers to look for yellow-tagged items, which often mark even deeper discounts. The company does not offer online shopping, which helps keep its prices low and encourages in-person visits.

Whether it's everyday clothing, home items, or gifts on a budget, the store aims to provide value without sacrificing quality. As inflation remains a concern for many households, stores like Ross have seen rising demand from shoppers hoping to stretch their dollars.

The chain’s ongoing growth suggests it plans to keep meeting that demand across more neighborhoods. And with more locations already planned for the future, shoppers may not have to wait long to see Ross pop up in their area.

There is a Ross store where I live, and yes, it's a good store with very good prices. But I disagree that it is better than TJ Maxx and Marshall's, I think those two stores have a better selection of higher quality items, also at very good prices.

And to think Trump according to Chicken Little and The boy who cried wolf was destroying the American economy.
