After 11 Years...
Arnold and his wife were cleaning out the attic one afternoon when he stumbled across an old ticket from the neighborhood shoe repair shop. The date on it was faded, but clear enough: over 11 years ago.
They both laughed, trying to remember who had forgotten to pick up a pair of shoes more than a decade ago.
“Do you think they’re still there?” Arnold asked.
“Highly doubtful,” his wife said, shaking her head.
“Never know,” Arnold replied, slipping the ticket into his pocket.
He headed downstairs, hopped in the car, and drove to the shop. At the counter, he handed the ticket to the man behind the register. The man gave it a glance, raised an eyebrow, and said, “Just a minute. Let me check.”
He disappeared into the back. A couple minutes passed. Then a voice called out, “Found them!”
Arnold blinked. “Really? That’s incredible! I can’t believe they’re actually still here after all this time!”
The man came back to the counter—empty-handed.
“They’ll be ready Thursday,” he said, straight-faced.
