An Unexpected Win
Did you know there was a man who won a race after he died? Hold on tight to your hats, GrayViners, this story is a bizarre but real piece of history!
Frank Hayes was a jockey who won a horse race after dying mid-race. This happened in 1923 at Belmont Park in New York. He was riding a horse named Sweet Kiss, and during the race, he suffered a fatal heart attack. Despite being dead, his body remained in the saddle, and Sweet Kiss crossed the finish line first. So technically, Frank Hayes became the only jockey known to have won a race posthumously. What a wild ride, am I right? Feel free to share your mind-blowing facts in the comments!
