Who truly holds the crown for the oldest democracy? Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and the Isle of Man all stake their claim with parliaments established during the Viking era of the 9th and 10th centuries. Iceland’s Althing, founded in A.D. 930, maybe the star, but centuries under Norwegian and Danish rule add a twist. Meanwhile, the Isle of Man and the Faroes still carry their historical ties to the UK and Denmark, keeping the contest alive!
