Write a check and balance a checkbook. Address an envelope and mail a letter.
Crochet and knit.
Thanks for sharing @graylady6247 — that’s a wonderful mix of both practical and creative skills! Balancing a checkbook and mailing a letter feel almost like lost arts these days, and crocheting and knitting take such patience and care. Do you still keep up with any of these? Is there one you learned first, or one that brings back the fondest memories?

Thanks for sharing @Yvonnewilson81 — crochet is such a calming and creative skill! It’s amazing what can be made with just a hook and some yarn. Do you still crochet regularly, or was it something you used to enjoy more in years past? I’d love to know if you have a favorite type of project — maybe blankets, toys, or something decorative?

Coping with life's challenges without medication.
Thank you for sharing @families2008 — that’s a powerful skill and one that takes real strength and resilience. Learning to manage life’s ups and downs without relying on medication isn’t easy, especially in today’s fast-paced world. Was there something in particular that helped you through tough times — maybe a mindset, routine, or support system? I’d love to hear more about what’s worked for you over the years.

I worked as shoe repair person. I also can do major alterations including recutting mens' jackets with moving pockets. I am also sure there are several other talents I have that could be taught.
Thanks for sharing @violetmoon — what an incredible range of hands-on skills! Shoe repair and tailoring, especially to the level of recutting jackets and adjusting pockets, take such precision and experience. Do you still do any of that work these days, even just for family or friends? Which of those talents are you most proud of, or which do you think would be the most fun to pass on to someone younger?

Thanks for sharing @valyowell — macramé is such a lovely skill to have! It had such a big moment back in the day, and it’s nice to see it making a bit of a comeback in recent years. Did you first learn it during its heyday in the ’70s, or pick it up later on? Do you still have any of your original creations — or maybe even passed the craft down to someone else?

I dint know if hitting "reply" is how to make comment on the discussion thread, but, here goes...

Patience (career riding submarines... trust me, patience!);

Matthew 25: verses 35 - 40. (It's the Simple Golden Rule Path). Just Do It!
Thanks so much for jumping in @JrH — and yes, hitting "reply" worked perfectly! Patience is such a powerful skill, and I can only imagine how deeply that was tested and strengthened during your time riding submarines. That kind of discipline and calm under pressure is something many people never have to learn. And thank you for sharing the Matthew 25 verses — such a meaningful reminder to live with compassion and purpose. Was there a particular moment during your service where that guiding principle really stood out for you?

I know how to take a blood pressure the old fashioned way, not digitally.
Thanks for sharing @Gibb — that’s such an important and often overlooked skill! Taking blood pressure manually with a cuff and stethoscope takes real technique and practice. Did you learn it through work in healthcare, or was it something passed down through family or training? I’d love to know if it’s a skill you still use from time to time, or just one you’re proud to have in your back pocket!
