General Discussion Thread 04.07.2025

Hey GrayViners! Sophia here. We’re already a week into April—can you believe it? Time sure flies! I hope this new month has been treating you well so far, and if not, no worries—every new day is a fresh start, and I’m sending a warm hello your way to help you kick off the rest of the month on a positive note.

Now, let’s have a little fun and get the conversation going:
What’s the most unexpected or quirky part of your morning routine?

Maybe you’ve got a ritual that makes your morning feel a little more magical, like chatting with your plants before your first cup of coffee, or perhaps you’re someone who busts out a little impromptu dance while brushing your teeth to get the day started on a high note. Maybe it’s something small but meaningful, like always putting on mismatched socks for good luck or reading a chapter of your favorite book before you even step out of bed. Whatever your unique morning routine looks like, we’d love to hear all about it!

Share your most unexpected or quirky morning routine below, and let’s see if we can uncover some secrets of morning magic together.

- Sophia 💓

I have a word game that I do. I do some face yoga before my pet bird wakes up
When she wakes up I put an ice cube in a water bowl and a little cornbread for breakfast. Not that quirky but it is a routine

First thing is pet all of my bed buddies, dogs, then I go into the kitchen get my bird, Amazon, his apple, lettuce, pellets and give to him. then the dogs get their pieces of hot dogs, while my coffee is making. then I set down at my computer and eat my breakfast roll , have coffee and start my day..

I love taking a moment to cuddle with my kitten. Then I gently massage my face saying, " Be gone wrinkles.", I get up and say good morning to the Hummingbirds and flowers on my porch, and head for the coffee pot. I take a deep breath and bring it back upstairs to my upstairs porch and sit, soak up the sun, and thank God I am still alive!

wash face, make coffee, feed cat, then it's me time, read obits in the paper to make sure i'm not in them, lol then I either play games on my phone or crochet while I listen to the morning news

Sounds good 😊 my dad was a Madonna 😊

This isn't exactly a morning routine but my husband has to go to the bathroom 3-4 times a night. Each time before he goes and after he comes back, he weighs himself. It just cracks me up. I think most of the time he is sleepwalking.

I automatically wake up every AM at 0230 and check my jig saw puzzles for the day. Get 2 new ones every AM and 3 on Friday and then do my Solitaire Quest for the day.

My lab knows when I'm awake in bed and climbs up to me for kisses. She and my staffordshire go outside and I check my plants out on the porch and yard. I note when something will be blooming so I can watch for it. My azalea will be soon. my mother of thousands has bloomed pretty dark red

I am a night owl so mornings are not my best time. I go to bed about 1-2 AM, set my alarm for 10:30 am and it always rings too soon. I stagger out of bed for my morning ablutions and then to my computer to test and post my blood sugar, then read emails. When I'm done with that I get on Youtube where I spend my days reading, watching, posting learning. If there is nothing catching my attention I will grab a piece of mail from my desk, point to a word and put it in the YT search bar. I have "met" such amazing people and things that way. I watch an older woman in Poland who still bakes her bread daily in an outdoor rock oven, keep up with a family in Azerbijain with grandma, two sons and several grandchildren who pretty much live off the land in the foothills of the mountain. Then I check my Korean couple who live in Japan and watch her cook for the day or do laundry or go shopping. The Japanese are so heavily invested in technology and cleanliness with an emphasis on respect and good manners....such a lovely way to live. Then I visit a woman in Newfoundland and watch her cook and garden. By then I am ready to watch videos of planes landing and taking off at the local international airport followed by checking out conspiracy theories. I don't have patience with movies or TV shows except for a few and never watch "the" news...I love Sky News Australia, BBC, and some US podcasters. I never have been a movie buff since way back when most movies that would interest me would be based on books I'd already read and I would be so disappointed in the casting. I could count on two hands the number of movies I've actually gone to and watched. Every now and again I check into my home town newspaper but don't know many of the people any more. I seem to have outlived most of my known peers. Then it/s time to water my orchids and start or at least think about dinner. If it's a great day, I've actually gone to the grocery or the library or park or walked around a thrift store. So go the days of my life and for me, it's what I want. I worked until I was 72 so now I do as I please; that was my retirement plan.
