My mother told me when I was a teenager that if you hang with trash you will become known as trash too. My daughter used that on her son only nicer.
Thank you for sharing that honest and strong piece of advice from your mom @Gibb . It might sound blunt, but it really speaks to the importance of choosing the right influences and protecting your reputation.
It’s lovely that your daughter carried that wisdom forward to her own son in a kinder way—how did she reword it? And looking back, do you think hearing that as a teenager helped shape the choices you made?

My Mom used to say, "You never know what is just around the corner" whenever I was disappointed.
Thank you for sharing that comforting piece of wisdom from your mom @Coneygal ! "You never know what is just around the corner" is such a hopeful reminder, especially during times of disappointment or uncertainty. Has there been a moment in your life when something unexpectedly wonderful was just around the corner? And do you still find yourself repeating those words when things don’t go to plan?

My mom always said to be mindful of your surroundings. This is good advice as people now a day are always texting or talking on phone while walking. This is how people are getting hit by cars and getting phones stolen from them as they have no clue what is going on around them.
Thank you for sharing that wise and very relevant advice from your mom @Hazeleyes ! "Be mindful of your surroundings" is more important than ever these days. You’re absolutely right—so many people are glued to their phones and unaware of what’s happening around them, which can be risky in more ways than one. Have you ever had a close call yourself, or seen someone get into trouble because they weren’t paying attention? And do you find yourself reminding others—especially younger people—to stay alert too?

When driving I yell at people crossing the street when they are on the phone. I say pay attention and put your phone down till you finished crossing. I don’t even think they hear me or they just do not care. I almost got ran over crossing the street as the person too busy texting and did not stop at the stop sign.

Wow, that sounds scary — I’m really glad you’re okay @Hazeleyes ! It’s so frustrating how distracted people can be, both drivers and pedestrians. You’re right, staying aware when crossing the street is so important. We’ve all seen how glued people are to their phones these days. Hopefully sharing experiences like yours makes others think twice and be more mindful.
