I will never forget living on the island of Oahu and celebrating Hawaii becoming a state. I was a kid and really didn’t understand what it meant other than movies costing 25center instead of 10 cents
Thank you for sharing that lovely memory @jjfer123 ! What a unique moment in history to have experienced — and it's so charming to hear it through the eyes of a child. A movie for 25 cents really says it all!

The day Robert Kennedy was assassinated in 1968 just 5 years after his brother President John F. Kennedy was assassated. I was home with my 3 children while my husband was in Washington working for Bobby. Airports were closed so he could not get home for a few days . A terrible day for me and the nation.
Thank you for sharing such a deeply personal memory @sudy . That must have been an incredibly difficult and emotional time — both for your family and the nation. We’re grateful you shared it with us.

The day JFK was assassinated. What a horrible day. Watched all the news coverage & then the funeral.
Thank you for sharing that memory @zoer . It truly was a heartbreaking day in history — one that left a lasting impact on so many.

I remember walking to my car for work when they broadcast the twin towers were hit. 911 will always be remembered. I was living in Virginia at the time in Westmoreland county. Our first responders left town not knowing would happen.
Thank you for sharing that memory @babycakes . 9/11 left a mark on all of us, and your words really capture the uncertainty and bravery of that day — especially from those first responders. It’s a day we’ll never forget.

We were all at recess when the principal announced JFK had been assassinated. It is stamped in my head and I'll always remember that sad, sad day.
Thank you for sharing that memory @senior71 . It’s incredible how clearly moments like that stay with us. That day left a lasting impression on so many — a truly sad time in history.

there are two things I will never ever forget! #1 , when President Kennedy was assasinated! #2, 9/11
Thank you for sharing those memories @Let'splay . Both events were truly heartbreaking and unforgettable — moments that changed the world and left a lasting mark on all of us.

I was working at 40 Worth Street in Manhattan when the planes hit the twin towers. I can never forget that day. I was yelling for the plane to move up or move over like it would actually hear me or care. Paper, glass, people all falling out of the building. What a horrible site.
Had to stay at the job site to make sure employees were all accounted for. We were finally allowed to leave. I was so grateful to get a ride uptown with our IT person. (It was 7 of us packed in a Prius. I sat on the front sitting on the console.) Saw one tower fall from rear view mirror as we were drove uptown. We hung out at his mom’s apartment. We all Finally went to get something to eat and well we all pooled whatever money we had together as the credit card machine was not working. When the bridges and roadways were open Ron dropped us off at different locations or at our houses. I had him drop me off at an exit and walked the rest of the way home as it is only about 16 blocks .
Thank you for sharing such a powerful and personal account @Hazeleyes . The way you described that day is incredibly moving — it captures both the chaos and the compassion people showed each other in the aftermath. It’s a day none of us will ever forget.

I saw the 9-11 as it happened . Working at University. Of WI. Saw it on Student Sadie's TV, since so he had her dorm door open, so she let me watch it with her. I stood in her door way. Sadie first thought a bomb caused it, but later saw it was a plane. Also when John F Kennedy was shot, my brother -in-law called to tell me, so watched it on Neighbor, the Lantto's TV since ours wasn't working
Thank you for sharing your memories with us @Pikkumummu#3 . It’s remarkable how clearly we remember where we were in those historic moments — standing in a doorway, gathered around a neighbor’s TV. These events leave such a lasting impact, and we’re grateful you took the time to share your experience.

I have memorable days . the shooting of JFK. I was in 8th grade class room when we were told. The first man to walk on the moon. The day of 9-11. So many loss of lives. so many families effected, either by being in those buildings or the rescuers that later lost their lives because of the conditions at the site rescuing people trapped. the Dogs that also sacrificed for the reasons of saving others. History has such horrible times. I remember my Dad not being in my life, as a small child, not knowing that he was fighting in the wars for our freedom.
Thank you for sharing such powerful and personal reflections @tennis . It’s incredible how many historic events you’ve lived through — each one deeply emotional in its own way. Your memories are a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made, not just by those in the headlines, but by families like yours behind the scenes. We’re truly grateful you shared them with us.

Seeing the World Trade Center being hit by airplanes on TV.

I was in sixth grade and my teacher got the phone call that President Kennedy had been assassinated.
Thank you for sharing such a significant memory @Lee . Hearing about President Kennedy’s assassination in school must have been a deeply shocking and unforgettable moment for you.

I will never forget 9/11/2001. I was sweeping off my front porch when my neighbor's son yelled to his mother to go watch TV because there had been a bombing in New York at the World Trade Center. I ran to my TV and watched the bombing that happened to be 2 planes that hit.
Thank you for sharing your experience @JoanieBen . It’s incredible how those moments, like watching the events of 9/11 unfold right from your own porch, stay with us forever. Such a shocking and unforgettable day for so many.

I can still see the coverage of JFK the day he was asassinated in my mind just as clear as if it just happened I was in the third grade then
Thank you for sharing such a lasting memory @AuntGranny . It’s remarkable how some moments from our childhood stay so vivid in our minds, especially something as impactful as the coverage of JFK’s assassination.

I remember in 8th grade I was in a home ec class. The principal came on the pa.system and said " the president of the United States has been shot. Later he got on again and said President Kennedy is dead. Still gives me the chills.
Thank you for sharing such a powerful memory @Gibb . Moments like hearing that announcement in school stay with us forever — it’s no wonder it still gives you chills after all these years.

I was in elementary school, living on a navy based. A boy in my class had been sent to the principal's office, and he came back at the end of the day and whispered to us that the President (Kennedy) had been shot. I teacher overheard and told him to be quiet. My BFF and I got on the navy buss that would take us to home, on the base. We were the only 2 that lived on the based itself, the other children, lived in navy housing off the base. We had asked the driver if it was true, when we first got on the bus, he told us to sit down and did not answer. But my BFF and I, knew that if the flag was at half mast, it was true and the President and died. All the other children were off the bus and as we passed through security, the flag pole was straight ahead, and the flag was at half mast The next thing I remember is watching the funeral on TV and the black horse with the boots in the stirrups facing backwards
Thank you for sharing.

I was in the school library when the announcement of President Kennedy’s assignation was made. There was a loud but muffled groan of disbelief followed by the sound of quiet sobbing. Will never forget.
I too was at the school library when JFK was shot. I was stunned and it was like a dream, then the principal announced it over the loud speaker, and everyone started crying. It was a very sad day indeed.
