Just wait til you have kids
Thank you for sharing this classic piece of advice @bobbibonn ! “Just wait ‘til you have kids” — how many times did we roll our eyes at that one, right? And then, boom… it all makes sense! The patience, the chaos, the unconditional love—and the exhaustion! Suddenly, we become our parents and hear ourselves saying the exact same thing. Was there a moment with your kids that made you think, “Ah… now I get it!”? 😄

My father used to say he would pay us 60 minutes an hour to do whatever it was that needed to be done.
When I sprained my ankle he said walk it off, don’t baby it.
Thank you for sharing this glimpse into your dad’s tough-love wisdom @Hazeleyes ! “Sixty minutes an hour” is such a classic line—what a way to teach the value of hard work and making every moment count! And “walk it off”… that was definitely the go-to remedy for just about everything back then, wasn’t it? 😅 Looking back, do you find some of that mindset helped shape your resilience—or do you find yourself telling the next generation to take it a little easier?

It taught me that hard work and dedication gets the job done. You are not always paid or rewarded accordingly but you know you gave it your all and completed the task to the best of your ability.
I do believe that walk it off was the go to remedy. But that is fine when you are younger most of the time. As you get older you do need to pamper and take care of it more as your body does not bounce back and recover as quickly.

Thank you for sharing this powerful reminder @GaryBlake ! "Pace yourself” sounds so simple—but it can be one of the hardest things to learn, especially when we’re full of energy and eager to do everything right now. Over time, we start to understand that slow and steady often wins the race… and saves a lot of stress along the way! Was there a moment in life when this advice really clicked for you?
Yes, ma'am!! It clicked when I realized that I could not the things I enjoyed in the past. My father is 94, and still plays in a golf league and he is the one that told me this all the time. I am afraid I burned my candle at both ends and ran through my youth with my hair on fire (possibly why it disappeared from the top of my head). I have had people many...TOO MANY, times mistake us as brothers!! He had a total knee replacement in April so he could play golf this summer, and his surgeon identified me as his brother....OH BROTHER!!!!!

Thanks again for sharing @GaryBlake —what a wonderful story! Your dad sounds like an absolute legend, still out there swinging those clubs at 94. And running through your youth with your hair on fire definitely sounds like a life well lived (even if the hair had other plans!). Being mistaken for brothers must make for some great laughs—“Oh brother,” indeed! Here’s to many more rounds of golf and plenty of good humor along the way.

Hard work and dedication truly do get the job done, even when the rewards don’t always match the effort. You’re right @Hazeleyes —“walk it off” might have worked when we were younger, but as we age, our bodies definitely need a bit more care and pampering to keep us going strong. It’s all about finding that balance and listening to what our bodies tell us. Thanks again for your insight—it’s something many of us can relate to!
