I lost my father when i was very young, my happiest memory goes way back to the early forties when we were at war. My father would come home from work, take me on his lap and sing "you are my sunshine" while holding me. i was six or seven years old and felt so safe and special. I am 92 now and love to watch old black and white movies, Every so often that song comes up and i still feel the childhood joy. thank you, Daddy.
Thank you for sharing such a touching memory @yachna — it truly warmed my heart. 💛 What a precious moment to carry with you all these years. I can just picture that little six-year-old, feeling safe and loved in your father’s arms while he sang “You Are My Sunshine” — it’s no wonder that song still brings you comfort. At 92, you’re a living treasure of history and love. Do you have a favorite black and white film that brings back those same warm feelings?

When I was a kid, my dad and I used to go out almost every Saturday to go bowling then to lunch. I got married and had a baby, so that took up a lot of my time, and after two years, my husband, daughter and I moved to another state, so I didn't get to see my parents much. Then, when in my mid-30s, we moved closer to my parents, and I started a Father's Day tradition where just my dad and I would go bowling and out for lunch. It brought back the closeness and fun we had when I was a child. Unfortunately, my dad passed away and we only got ten years to have this special together time, but the memories of the time just the two of us shared the joy of my childhood are forever in needed in my mind and heart.
Thank you so much for sharing such a meaningful memory @NancyCL — what a beautiful full-circle moment to have rekindled that childhood tradition with your dad later in life. 🎳💛 Those Saturday outings sound like they were filled with laughter, love, and connection — and starting the Father’s Day tradition just the two of you is truly special. It’s amazing how something as simple as bowling and lunch can hold so much love. Did you two have a regular spot you liked to go for lunch after your games?

My mother had Huntington's disease
That left my dad to take of us. ( 5 girls )
He was a truck driver. When he was at home he cooked and cleaned. He was a hard worker. He had his hands full. I was there oldest and started doing the cooking, except on Sunday. He cooked a big meal every week. I miss.him very much
Thank you for sharing that powerful memory @Gibb — your dad sounds like an incredible man. 💛 Balancing work, caregiving, and raising five daughters takes a special kind of strength and devotion. It’s clear he gave everything he had to his family, and that Sunday meal must have been such a meaningful tradition for all of you. Do you still remember a favorite dish he would make on those Sundays? I imagine the smells and flavors still bring him to mind.

My father always helped neighbors what they needed done. I liked helping him out every chance I had with whatever he was working on.
One particular memory was him cutting a bee nest out of our tree. I was standing with garbage can cover to put on the trash can ounce the nest was cut and fall into can.

What a special memory—thank you so much for sharing it with us @Hazeleyes . It sounds like your dad had a heart for helping others and wasn’t afraid to tackle even the trickiest jobs! I can just picture you standing there bravely with the garbage can lid, ready for action. What a team you made! It’s moments like those that stay with us forever.
