We had the largest front yard in our neighborhood. So after school the kids came to play Dodgeball. Great times
Thanks for sharing that lovely memory @Gibb ! Having the biggest front yard must’ve made your place the unofficial neighborhood playground! 😄 Dodgeball after school sounds like so much fun—fast-paced, full of laughs (and maybe a few dramatic dodges too!). Were you known for having a strong throw or quick reflexes? And do you still keep in touch with any of those after-school dodgeball buddies?

Thank you so much for sharing such vivid and joyful memories @Gayle B. —you really painted a beautiful picture of summer in the ’50s! Sewer lids as bases, marbles with a string boundary, and late nights under the streetlights—it all sounds like pure childhood magic. 😄 Being the neighborhood marble champ is no small feat—go you! 🏆 Do you still have any of your winning marbles tucked away somewhere? And I love that even though H.O.R.S.E. was tricky at first, you always worked your way back into shape by summer’s end. That kind of determination is inspiring! Catching pollywogs and frogs sounds like such a carefree adventure—did you ever name any of your little catches before letting them go?
I certainly do have all of the marbles I won! Literally and figuratively! Lol.
On to playing in the creek…I did in fact name my catches. In order not to forget any of their names I named them all Fred! That way I wouldn’t slight any of them. Made sense while growing up. Not so much anymore though. Lol again.
Spending summer outside is the memories I treasure. Life in the home and in school…well they were hellish years. I couldn’t wait to get out and away from the house and family. I enlisted 2 weeks after turning 18. Ended up being stationed in North Dakota for 20 years. Married another service member and we’ve been married for over 52 and a half years. Good things come to those who wait for the reward!
Sorry for my rant

52 and a half years?! What an absolute milestone! Don't worry, that did not feel like a rant, at all! I love talking to members and hearing about your stories! And, agree with you a million percent, good things come to those who wait! ❤️
