General Discussion Thread 06.20.2025

Hey GrayViners!

Can we agree that grooming isn’t just about “looking good”? It’s about feeling human—especially on those days when the coffee needs a second cup and the mirror isn’t being kind.

So I want to see your answers for today's question: What’s your go-to grooming habit that keeps you feeling like yourself?

Whether it’s a good ol’ shave, keeping those pesky ear hairs at bay, or just splashing your face with cold water like you're in a 1950s aftershave commercial… we all have that one habit that makes us feel put-together.

As for me, I keep it simple: a twice-weekly shave. It’s my one non-negotiable. Clean lines, a smooth feel, and a little time to reset help me feel ready for whatever the day throws at me.

So, what about you?

We want to hear all of it—hair routines, skin tricks, beard rituals, toenail secrets. No judgment here!

Drop your tips, your routines, your “can’t-skip-this” habits below 👇 Bonus points for any home remedies or hacks you swear by!

Cheers!

This will probably sound boring. Being retired and handicapped means I can take a shower once a week. I shampoo 2x and use conditioner. I brush my hair every day. It still has some waviness to it which I love. Then I lotion up everywhere. Some areas need it twice.
To start the day my husband brings me breakfast in bed. He’s done that for much of our marriage. 👍 I do some basic stretches while I’m still on the bed. That’s about it for me. 😏

Shower is every other day. Shampoo and conditioner in hair. Bar soap all over my body. Weekly I use noxzema on my face. After that I put moisturizer on my face and whole body. I clean my toenails and fingernails regularly. Clip my toe nails when they get too long. File my finger nails constantly as they always break with me repairing something, gardening or whatever. I do not even bother to polish. That’s it, head to toe.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us @Gayle B. ! There’s absolutely nothing boring about your routine—it actually paints a lovely picture of self-care and love. I especially smiled at the image of your husband bringing you breakfast in bed—what a beautiful and enduring gesture. 💛 It’s wonderful that you still enjoy the natural wave in your hair, and your routine sounds so gentle and grounding. I also love that you’ve included stretches in bed—such a smart and kind way to ease into the day. If you don’t mind me asking, do you have a favorite scent or brand of lotion that makes your skin feel especially pampered? Or maybe something that brings back a memory?

Thank you for sharing your go-to grooming routine @Hazeleyes —it sounds wonderfully thorough and practical, head to toe indeed! 😊 I especially admire how hands-on you are with repairs and gardening—it’s no wonder your nails are always on the frontline! It’s great that you take the time to care for your skin and nails, even without fussing over polish. There’s something really refreshing about a natural, no-nonsense routine that works. Do you have a favorite time of day for your grooming ritual? Or maybe a special product—like that classic Noxzema—that you’ve stuck with for years?

I love vanilla scented candles. I don’t wear perfume. I’m not into being much of a girly girl. I was raised as a tomboy. My brothers weWe dressed in jeans and t shirts and so was I. Until my chest developed I wore my older brother’s hand me downs. I didn’t like lacy stuff or girl type clothes or hats or anything else like that. I played in the dirt with trucks and Army men. I use unscented lotion. I’m pretty plain Jane. Even though you disagreed I still think I’m boring. 💁

Thanks so much for sharing @Gayle B. —it’s clear you know exactly who you are, and there’s something really refreshing about that. Vanilla candles, trucks in the dirt, and hand-me-downs from your brothers? That’s a story full of character, not boring in the slightest! We all shine in different ways, and being true to yourself is never plain. 💛
