Happy Friday, GrayViners! 🥳 I hope you’re staying cool as summer heats up!

I’ve been daydreaming about the beach lately (it’s been two years since I’ve been!), and I can almost feel the sun on my face and the sand between my toes. There was a time I’d go 3 or 4 times a year. In my family, we joke that our love for the sea comes from our dad—he’s basically a merman. I adore the beach and would teleport there in a heartbeat if I could.

Now the mountains? That’s another story. Friends have tried to lure me on hikes, but I always say I’ll cheer them on from the bottom. Although… if it’s just a short trek, I might be convinced!

It got me thinking… Are you more of a beach person or a mountain person? Or do you prefer the comfort of home when it’s hot outside?

I'd love to hear what summer looks like for you—let’s have a chat in the comments below!

I live in the California high desert but always loved going to the beach. I’m disabled now so home is where I stay

I prefer the mountains. Love to hike and there is so much peace and serenity living in the mountains. Grew up where was mountains. Love the Ozarks and yes, there are mountains in Arkansas

I love camping in the mountains, getting up early, watching nature all round me, cooking, love it all. I used to love the beaches but along came "Jaws" and I never went to the beach again, that movie destroyed the joy for me.

Used to be a beach person until I got a suprapublic catheter. Now I can't even take a bath with this hole in my tummy. Moved to Evanston, Wyoming when I was 19, got married and truly enjoyed the mountains. We used to camp at a place called Grays river and it was wonderful. Learned how to trout fish. Lived in Evanston for 4 years while I went to college at what is now called Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Used to make that 70 mile drive everyday throughout the week and came home on weekends.

I was a beach person when I was younger. Since getting older and having some meds that do not like the heat I enjoy staying home in the AC .

I was a Girl Scout since the 4th grade. I loved the outdoors and followed the traditions in everything from merit badges to the country outings. I thrived with them. In the 11th grade my troop flew from Cleveland to Bismarck ND. My first plane trip! We drove from there to Ten Sleep WY. It was our version of a Boy Scout Jamboree. It was the highlight of my life up and till leaving home for good! I was the bugler for the whole campsite which covered many, many acres. What an honor for me to represent this way. I’ve played the trumpet since the 4th grade.
I left at 18 for the Air Force. My 2nd of many more years of flying. After all of my basic training and training for the field I would be working in, I ended up FAR from my desired destination I was sent to North Dakota for 20 years. I met my husband who was also in the AF. On our travels we spent a lot of time in the mountains in the western US. We especially loved the mountains of The Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole WY. We loved it and hoped we could live there forever. However that’s not how life goes. We moved to Kentucky to live a reasonable distance from our families but close enough to get to them in a day or less. We were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning 5 years ago which we are feeling blessed and grateful to be alive. It left us with serious mobility issues and other health issues. Now our reality is to st home. Not complaining, just saying. Wow, I blabbed on and on. Oops.
