Thanks for sharing your settings @NIBOR0 — it sounds like you’ve got it down to a science! Living in the Midwest definitely brings some weather extremes. Do you find the humidity plays a big role in how warm or cool your home feels?72 at night and 73 during the day during the summer. We usually keep it at 74 during the winter months. We do live in the Midwest which I'm sure makes a difference in what your thermometer reads.
Thanks for sharing @jerry — how refreshing to hear from someone who doesn’t mind the heat! Do you find you enjoy the summer breeze or do you rely on fans when it really warms up?Off in summer and 72 in winter. The hot weather doesn't bother me at all.
Thanks for sharing your go-to temps @Rusty Vale ! That sounds like a comfortable balance between seasons. Do you tend to stick with those settings year after year, or do you adjust depending on the weather outside? The thermostat in our house is at 74° in the summer and 70° in the winter.
Thanks for sharing @BRENDA DIGNAM — sounds like you've found a sweet spot that works well for both ends of the thermometer! Do you notice a big change in your energy bill between seasons, or is it pretty steady with those settings?74 in summer and 70 in winter.
Thanks for sharing your settings @Sunnidaze ! That’s a great way to save energy, especially keeping the AC at 80 in summer. Do you have any tricks for staying cool indoors when it gets really hot outside? In summer s the thermostat for AC is set at 80 and in winter it is set at 73.
Thanks for sharing your preferred AC setting @Digeo ! That’s a comfortable range for staying cool without overdoing it. Do you usually keep it at that temp all day, or adjust it depending on the time or activity?77 or 78 AC
Thanks for sharing @Arkie98 — sounds like you’ve mastered cozy living without cranking up the thermostat! Those toasty afghans and a good sweater make all the difference. Do you knit or crochet your own, or have you collected them over the years?i tolerate heat well so no AC winter never above 70. Keeps the bill down and i have lots of nice toasty afghans and a heavy sweater. Am quite comfortable
Thanks for sharing @Joking — 64 degrees year-round is definitely on the cooler side, but it sounds like it suits you perfectly! Do you find layering up is the key in winter, or do you have a favorite way to stay warm indoors?64 degrees all year. We have all of the seasons where I live. I can't stand being hot. I'm warm-blooded, I guess.
Thanks for sharing @SueBirch66 — 75 sounds like your perfect all-seasons comfort zone! Do you find that keeps everyone in the house happy, or do you have any thermostat debates now and then?75 is comfortable summer and winder for me
Thanks so much for sharing @Gayle B. — that’s a great system you’ve worked out, and I love the bit about not hogging the blanket!Although we’re in our 70’s we keep the temp at 68/69 year round. We live in Kentucky now but we spent 20 years in North Dakota serving in the military. Both places were kept at the same temperature. At night however, we set it at 65. That made for a great night’s sleep.
Plus neither of us hogs the blanket! Neither of us cares for hot and humid!
Besides we can always put more clothes on when we’re chilly, but in the heat of summer we can only take off just so many clothes and remain decent!![]()
Thanks for sharing @GJo — it sounds like you’ve all found a smart and peaceful compromise! I love the ceiling fan trick too—it really does make a difference. Does your granddaughter ever sneak the thermostat up or down when no one’s looking, or is she on board with the plan too?I live with my daughter, son in law and 9 year old granddaughter. We have agreed to a compromise and keep it about 70 all year round. We turn on the ceiling fans drawing up in the winter and down in the summer. It keeps the temperature pretty even and if I get cold in the winter I just keep a cardigan sweater handy!
Thanks for sharing @redbayqueen — it sounds like you’ve got a solid system to beat that Mississippi humidity! Running the bedroom unit cooler at night must make for some great sleep. Do you use anything else to manage the humidity, like a dehumidifier or blackout curtains?i have window a/c units. At night I keep my bedroom unit at 65F. I live in Mississippi so we are always fighting humidity. In daytime I keep it around 70F.
Thanks for sharing your settings @dkleslie52 — those sound like a great balance between comfort and energy savings! Do you find you stick with those numbers every year, or do you adjust depending on how extreme the weather gets?77 in Summer 68 in winter
Thanks for sharing @slaughjl — what a nice 10-degree swing between seasons! Do you find that 66 in winter feels just right with cozy clothes and blankets, or do you add anything like a space heater to certain rooms?76 in summer 66 in winter.
Thanks for sharing @Kayjaykelley1 — those are classic comfort temps that a lot of people swear by! Do you find your home holds temperature well, or do you need to run the system often to keep it steady?I am comfortable with 68 in winter and 78 in summer
Thanks for sharing @Peterbee — I love that you’ve found a good middle ground at 76! Sounds like thermostat diplomacy at its finest.Im an older, 70-ish senior citizen and like the house thermometer about 77, but my better half says 75 and so compromise at 76. I like San Diego weather but cant afford to live there.
Thanks for sharing @Gibb — sounds like you’ve struck a thoughtful balance, even if it means bundling up a bit at night!72* for me also, although my husband would love 68*. That is too cool for me
In the winter he sets it at 67* at night. I am under plenty of covers. so I don't say much. You have to pick your battles.
