Hey hey hey, happy weekend, GrayViners!

With music playing and the breeze coming in, I found myself pretending to host a cooking show. The dish? Pancakes. That first flip brought me back to my first real try—imperfect, but I was so proud.

So today’s memory-starter is to finish this sentence:
The first thing I learned to cook was...

Maybe it was a family recipe, a college experiment, or something you mastered as a kid while standing on a stool to reach the stove. Was it edible? A disaster? A masterpiece? More importantly, what made it stick in your memory?

Let’s hear yours, GrayViners:
What was your first dish? Who taught you? And how did it go?

Warmly,
Sophia

Cornbread, pinto beans, green beans, great northern beans, fried potatoes, round steak. 99% was not edible. My mom had her sights on other adventures beside her kiddos and husband. My sister and I were 10 and 11. 🙃

Scrambled eggs. My mom would only cook fried eggs, and I hated them. When I was five, she told me if I want scrambled eggs, I'd have to cook them. She taught me, and I've been cooking them ever since, like 65 years.

I’ve been cooking forever- can’t remember starting. I know I used to cook the pancakes so my mom could eat but other than that I’ve been cooking longer than I can remember!
