When I was young, there was a huge lilac bush outside our bedroom window. I was born in Michigan. Every time I smell that fragrance it takes me right back to that bedroom. Just thinking about it, I can imagine that beautiful bush. I see several people have the same type of memory for lilacs.
What a beautifully detailed memory, @senior71. I can picture that bush right outside your window and feel the breeze coming through. It’s incredible how one scent can hold an entire childhood scene. And you’re right—so many here have similar lilac memories. It must be the scent of nostalgia!

During better times the smell of freshly baked cookies and a glass of milk takes me back to a wonderful part of my childhood.
The smell of sheets hung outside on the clothes line takes me back to some nights being calm and pleasant smelling as a kid.
The smell of turkey and the fixings wafting through the house on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days.
The smell of a live Christmas tree takes me back to better times.
Thanks for the memories of decent periods in my childhood. It was a nice walk down memory lane.
Thank you for taking us with yout on that walk down memory lane, @Gayle B. You painted such a rich picture of what home used to feel like—cookies in the oven, sheets on the line, holiday meals filling the house.

Ccinnamon. My great grandmother's kitchen always smelled so good. I am 77 and lost my great grandmother 60 years ago but open cinnamon and I am a little girl.
Your great-grandmother must’ve created such a warm and lasting space for you. Thank you for letting us peek into that kitchen, @Gibb!

Jergens lotion - the original cherry almond scent. My mom died 3 weeks before my 10th birthday. She always used this lotion on her hands. I buy it and use it to this day as a remembrance of her.
The way you’ve kept that scent as a thread back to your mother is deeply touching, @jtsisk62 . It’s incredible how something as simple as lotion can carry so much love and memories.
