My aunt whom l am named after gave me her hope chest that was purchased back in the 1920's. When they downsized, l received it from her when l was 10 yrs old and l am 70 now. So it is 100 yrs old. My mom collected china for me back in the 60's from the Kroger store each week so that china it 60ish too but it is displayed in my china cabinet
Your aunt’s hope chest from the 1920s, @angib55, has seen a full century! Pairing it with your Kroger china collection is such a sweet family touch.

My Mom saved all of my Barbies and their clothes. They look well played with so I don't think that they are worth any money. I also have a chunk of Petrified Wood I picked up off of a curb when I was 11. 64 now.
Those Barbies and that petrified wood must bring back so many memories, @NIBOR0. I love that your mom saved them for you.

A doll that was given as a birthday gift from my Grandmother when I was 5 yrs old. I am now 70.
That doll from your grandmother must mean the world to you, @Wheream1. Keeping something from age 5 all the way to 70 is really special.

One is a tiny gold and enameled heart locket with a rose bud on it that was given to me at my birth in 1956, so 69 years. Another is my Mamaw's cup and saucer collection that my mom gave to me when I was 11---she had added on to it and so have I and I love every set in it! Another is a broom I found in a shop when I was 19---made of a honeysuckle branch, the wood handle naturally curls around. Paid $20 in 1976 and have used it for indoor work and yard work and the bristles are still intact! I'm now 69. We do love and enjoy our treasures!
@sadieclayladie your locket, cup and saucer collection, and even that honeysuckle broom… each one of those sounds like a story in itself. I love how much care you’ve kept them with.

My hand me down trumpet. When one of my Uncles died in 1918, my father took possession of it. My dad played the trombone which my older brother decided he wanted to play . As the middle child I chose my Uncle’s trumpet. Our youngest brother chose the drums. Boy oh boy did my parents regret starting his drum set! The 3 of us wailed in the basement. Too bad our parents didn’t have noise canceling headphones!
Anyway, I had it in the 6th grade which was when our Elementary School started music classes. I joyfully played it all of the time. Never minded the hours of practice. I played until my lips gave out each day. Three years ago it was stolen. In my case were 3 song flutes from the same time and some of my favorite music. It has left a huge hole in my heart and soul! 😭 🎺 🎶
@Gayle B. your trumpet story really tugged at me. I can just picture you and your brothers playing together in the basement. Losing it must have been so hard, but it’s clear the love of music it sparked will always be part of you.
