I guess I’m the minority because I love carpet. It’s soft and cosy in the winter. Yes I have to shampoo it but it’s worth it. I do like Hardwood flooring in the kitchen and dining room.
I love that you stuck up for carpet, @hawaiimegrl! 🧡 Nothing beats that cozy feel underfoot in winter.

Hardwood flooring due to the fact that I have a long-haired cat and I don't care how good your vacuum is, it won't get out all the hair!
Totally get it, @NIBOR0—long-haired pets + carpet can be a tough combo. Hardwood makes cleanup so much easier.

I have both, in different parts of the house and both have their pros and cons. To me, it would be hard to say which is better.
Fair point, @Peterbee—both have their strengths. Your mix-and-match approach sounds practical.

Team HARDWOOD floors forever!
We roll in a wheelchair a walker and a rollator. Carpets are the enemy for us! Besides we are both at risk of falling! We fall often enough without carpet.
Thank you for that perspective, @Gayle B. Accessibility comes first, hardwood makes moving with wheels and walkers so much safer.

Definitely HARDWOOD! It is much easier to keep clean with simple mopping or sweeping, plus it does not collect as much dust and germs as carpet which holds it in the fibers and collects it in the padding below. My asthma Dr. says hardwood is much better for asthma patients who are triggered by dust and dander and pet fur etc. If I want the carpet look, I can just get a pretty room sized throw rug which is easily changed when one wants a new look, too!
Excellent points, @Becky Danielson—hardwood’s low-dust factor plus swappable rugs is a winning combo, especially with asthma in mind.
