Hardwood is really pulling ahead here, @BerkshireBrian!Hardwood!
You’re right on, @Hazeleyes—hardwood being easier to clean is such a huge plus.Hardwood is easier to clean.
I love that you stuck up for carpet, @hawaiimegrl!I guess I’m the minority because I love carpet. It’s soft and cosy in the winter. Yes I have to shampoo it but it’s worth it. I do like Hardwood flooring in the kitchen and dining room.
Best of both worlds, @mythreedogs2017! Bedrooms cozy with carpet and hardwood everywhere else sounds like a great balance.I have new carpet in the bedrooms and hard wood in the rest of the house. I love it.
Barefoot living sounds so inviting, @GaryBlake.Carpet! I am barefoot in the house year 'round, and carpet keeps my feet healthier, and warmer.
Adding your vote to the tally, @goodbs01—hardwood for the win!Hardwood
Sounds gorgeous, @GVKarianne2145! Hardwood with a few throw rugs gives you that cozy look without the upkeep.I have beautiful hardwood floors throughout my house and I love them along with a few throw rugs!
Totally get it, @NIBOR0—long-haired pets + carpet can be a tough combo. Hardwood makes cleanup so much easier.Hardwood flooring due to the fact that I have a long-haired cat and I don't care how good your vacuum is, it won't get out all the hair!
Appreciate you sharing that, @Wiseoldone—when breathing is a factor, hardwood’s easy maintenance can make a real difference.I have asthma, so hardwood floors, Easter to keep clean
Fair point, @Peterbee—both have their strengths. Your mix-and-match approach sounds practical.I have both, in different parts of the house and both have their pros and cons. To me, it would be hard to say which is better.
Thank you for that perspective, @Gayle B. Accessibility comes first, hardwood makes moving with wheels and walkers so much safer.Team HARDWOOD floors forever!
We roll in a wheelchair a walker and a rollator. Carpets are the enemy for us! Besides we are both at risk of falling! We fall often enough without carpet.
Team ‘both’ for the balanced life, @mmarple! The right floor in the right room really works.I have both!
Logging another hardwood vote, @Arkie98—nice and straightforward!hardwood
Smart plan, @Westworld2—clear floors for easier breathing, with just a soft spot by the tub.I have read no carpet is better for breathing lol, and if i own home there be no carpet. only in front of my bathtub.![]()
Excellent points, @Becky Danielson—hardwood’s low-dust factor plus swappable rugs is a winning combo, especially with asthma in mind.Definitely HARDWOOD! It is much easier to keep clean with simple mopping or sweeping, plus it does not collect as much dust and germs as carpet which holds it in the fibers and collects it in the padding below. My asthma Dr. says hardwood is much better for asthma patients who are triggered by dust and dander and pet fur etc. If I want the carpet look, I can just get a pretty room sized throw rug which is easily changed when one wants a new look, too!
